The Heartless Bastards with Good Old War at the Varsity Theater

The Heartless Bastards packed them in at the Varsity Theater on April 4, 2009 for their CD release show with Good Old War. The sudden cancellation of Gaslight Anthem due to an abscessed tooth did nothing to affect the mood or size of the crowd that night with several fans shouting “we’re here for YOU” throughout their set. After a short interview and photo session in the green room with Good Old War (and a celebratory shot of whiskey) Donette and I headed upstairs to the wall to wall crowd in the newly remodeled Varsity Theater. Much to my dismay the big comfy couches and chairs were replaced with small tables and chairs reminiscent of a reception hall. The disco balls and stringed ceiling lights just aren’t the same without the retro furniture. The newly opened bar area in the back with the exposed metal beams was cool though leading Donette to comment on how fun it would be to swing from them.
